Slovak people will choose the president in the second round of presidential elections scheduled for April 4. According to expectations, Ivan Gašparovič and opposition candidate Iveta Radičová are the main characters of the decisive battle that progressed from the first round with the two highest numbers of voices from the voters. It is necessary to say that Ivan Gašparovič won the first round with less lead like were the predictions of public opinion polls. Politicals assume the balanced battle in the final round. Both opponents believe themselves before this final plebiscite. Actual president Ivan Gašparovič, backed by two parties of the ruling coalition the Smer, the largest party in parliament and the Slovak National Party (SNS), received 46,71 percent of the votes and Iveta Radičová, the candidate of the parliamentary opposition parties finished with 38,05 percent of the votes. The voter turnout was at 43.63 percent. For this presidential election there were 4,339,331 eligible voters registered in the voter lists and 1,875,629 valid votes were cast. In my opinion, the second round will be more interesting mainly because of the votes from the voters that elected others presidential candidates who did not succeed in plebiscite or persuaded Slovak inhabitants.
