Ivan Gašparovič, the incumbent president, won the second round of the presidential election. The candidate backed by ruling party Smer and the Slovak National Party will be Slovak president for another five years. According to the last expectations, Ivan Gašparovič gains more votes than Iveta Radičová, the joint candidate of the parliamentary opposition parties. Our re-elected president received 55,53 percent of the votes and Iveta Radičová finished with 44,46 percent of the votes. Ivan Gašparovič became the first Slovak president that allegiared his position of the head of state. The unofficial results were published shortly after midnight and Iveta Radičová congratulated the old-new head of state and assumed the results of the elections. Just a few days before the second rules, observes suggested that Iveta Radičová can be considered by the candidate that has a chance most likely to change the way the role of president in our country. Probably, the view of female president or democratic changes the atmosphere in society were one of the most important results why people decided to elect our old president. Slovaks are famous for its conservatism. So, we will see that our choice was right in the nearby future.
