Friend - my other self

We can see them everywhere. Sometimes they cross a street frequently than lovers. When we meet them, we can hear funny laugh and conspiratorial spark. The Little girls who are playing children games, teenagers who say about their first love, students on the university who beer about hard exams, mothers who supervise to their children or old women who are sitting on the bench. Simply, they are the best friends. Neither of them can imagine their life without each other. The big friendships begin anywhere and anytime.
The best friends comprise in our life the important part. They help us when we need it, and still they back up for us. If we have a problem we can call them every time. We are supported by them and can say them our secrets and other important things from our life. When we talk with them or tell them our problems we have a better mood and have poise in the soul. And so, sometimes our best friend became our personally psychologist.
People who find their best friend can be happy because they are often our kindred spirit.

Washington

Washington, DC became the capital of the USA in 1800. It covers an area of around 110 square kilometers and nowadays has about the same population as Bratislava.
There are many federal building, including the FBI and Pentagon. Washington is very popular tourist place. Almost twenty million visitors come here each year.
Washington offers a lot of galleries and museums. The most renowned is the Smithsonian Institution. There is the US’s national collection of everything on the Earth. The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world. There are over 100 million books.
In my opinion the most famous building in Washington is the White House. It is the official residence of the U.S. presidents. It includes the Executive Residence, the West Wing and the East Wing. The famous Oval Office is located in the West Wing. Few people know that small parts of the house are built from white stone, which is found on the Croatian island. Nowadays the first African-American president Barack Abama with his family lives there. The White House is amazing, because it is the only residence of a head of state in the world that is open the public, free of charge. Visitors can see all 132 rooms.

Greenwich

Greenwich is set in park by the River Thames. It includes some of London’s most noble buildings, including the Queen’s House, the Royal Observatory and the Wren’s Royal Collage.
The old Royal Observatory in Greenwich was founded by Charles II in 1675. Nowadays there is a museum in Flamsteed house. If you go there, you will have the impression that Flamsteed and his wife still live there. There is food on the table, clothes and so on. The telescopes and time- measuring instruments are displayed there. The red ball on top of the tower still drops down at 1 P.M. each day. It allows Thames navigators to set their chronometers. The Gate clock measures Greenwich Mean Time. This time is standard time, which is set all round the world. The Greenwich Meridian is marked by a brass strip crossing the Observatory courtyard. This line divides the Earth between eastern and western hemispheres. If you stand on this line, you will be on both hemispheres in the same time.

The Thames Flood Barrier is s remarkable piece of engineering. This barrier protected London from being flooded. Ships pass between the gates in normal conditions. If the Thames surges, the protective barrier will block the river within 30 minutes.

SHALL WE DANCE?

One popular part of culture is a dancing. People adore dancing because of its many advantages such as relax, fun, socializing and kind of sports. So there are many films about dancing and relationships that dancing brings for example: Shall we dance? or Dirty dancing: Havana Nights.

Shall we dance? A workaholic lawyer’s life and marriage are really changed when he follows a beautiful woman to a Chicago dance studio. In my opinion what begins as a romantic comedy soon turns into story about a place where one finds passion.

The movie is based on Japanese hit that won fans around the world. It seems to me that the film with its thrilling dance brings the story about American’s search for fulfillment and happiness.

Richard Gere stars as John Clark, a man with a wonderful job, a charming wife (played by Susan Saradon) and a loving family, who feels that something is missing as he makes his way every day through the city. He commutes home and sees a beautiful young teacher named Pauline (played by Jennifer Lopez). John sees her through the window of a dance studio and admires her. John jumps off the train one night and hoping to meet her, signs up for dance lessons.

At first it seems like a mistake. His teacher is not Pauline, but the much older Miss Mitzi (played by Anita Gillette) and John is clumsy. He meets Pauline and she tells John that she hopes he has come to the studio to seriously study dance and not to look for a date. During lessons, he starts to fall in love with dance. Soon he realizes that his attraction to Pauline is nothing in comparison to what he feels for dance.

John has to keep his new obsession secret from his family and co-workers. The more time John spends away from home the more his wife becomes suspicious; she hires a private detective to follow him.

After all he tells about his secret his family and they realize that dance is what he really dreams about.

DIRTY DACING: HAVANA NIGHTS

The film tells a timeless story of a young woman’s love, sensuality and independence-but with a unique style and rhythm.

In my opinion Havana Nights combines romance, dance, personal history and self-discovery. In 1958, Katey Miller (Romola Garai) was a teenager living in St. Lois, Missouri, when her father an executive with Reynolds Aluminum, was transferred to Havana where he had taken an executive position at Ford.

Katey did not want to leave her life in St. Louis, but of course had no choice. Her family joined the other American families in residence at Havana’s luxurious hotels, where every need was catered to and people socialized at country clubs, private parties and luxury nightclubs and casinos. It was a culture shock for the family. They were a middle-class family and suddenly they were living in a fancy hotel with chauffeur available at all times.

In my view Katey was different; she discovered a culture where dance and music were part of everyday life. I think that the dancing in Cuba-how people moved was completely different for her. She had never in her life seen anything that looked like the dancing she saw in Havana, because when people danced it was about the freedom of their bodies. It was a part of their personality.

Katey was expected to join the smart set of American teenagers who were the Millers’ neighbors at the exclusive Oceana Hotel. Katey met Javier (Diego Luna) a waiter who also happened to be a brilliant dancer. They became friends and wanted to win a dancing competition because of a help Javier’s family. They wanted to win money and with that also an opportunity for Javier’s family moving to the USA, because only there they can live in a freedom.

At the night of the competition finally arrives, Katey and Javier are ready to take their place as a couple on the dance floor, but the country club and the streets of Havana were about to erupt in revolutionary violence…

New Zealand

New Zealand’s population is only four million in a country with an area of over 250000 square kilometers. Almost one million live on the larger South Island. Around 90% of the population is from Europe. The three main cities are Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The nature is very diversity and picturesque. There are a lot of unique natural phenomenons, for example: snow- capped mountain peaks, bubbling mud pools, geysers, volcanoes, glaciers, forests, sunny beaches and the sea.
Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand. It is also called the “City of sails”, because it has more boats than any other city. Water sports are very popular here. If you want to try kayaking, water skiing, diving or windsurfing this seaside resort is the best for us. Island volcanoes and wildlife reserves are great for sailing and cruising.
The Bay of Islands is one of the most beautiful regions in the country. The weather is warm and the sky is blue most of the time in this region. There is something for everyone from outdoor activities.
In my opinion the country like New Zealand is very interesting for tourists from Europe, because this country is different in every aspect.
