The Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars, are presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to recognize excellence in the film industry. The Oscars, the gold statuette can be considered by one of the most representative and most damndest awards for the artists in the world. They have been handed out since 1929. This award is a sign of artist´s success not only by spectators, but also by critics and film makers. Business in the area of the film industry is represented by actors, actresses, directors, producers, etc. Over the years the Oscars has thrown up some wonderful results with some of the most influence film makers of a generation being ignored. Sunday, February 22, 2009 was “great night” for artist´s world. In this night, in the US, the 81st Annual Academy Award winners have been announced. According to people, absorbed in movie´s demesne, the this-year handing out awards belonged to the best.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON

Can you imagine that you live your life the other way round? At first as an old man and then as a child?

This way Benjamin Button (played by Brad Pitt) was born. He was born as eighty years old man. But he is younger from year to year. During own life he meets a girl Daisy (played by Cate Blanchett). Ben falls in love when he was fifty years old. He loves Daisy. Beautiful Daisy is thirty years old. So it seems that a couple could live together forever happily. Yes, they could, but this is not a typical story about love. How can she love man who becomes younger and she becomes older from year to year.

In my opinion this film will favourite by every age categories (by teenagers, adults and by older people), because love in this story is described as strange and interesting relationship between two so different people.

After a band Peha breaks, Katka starts to create on her’s own. A result of her hard work is the first solo album “Zodiak”. This album is more various and more nature than albums when Katka sings in a band Peha. Bonus of the album is well-known song “Môj Bože”.

Beyoncé: I AM……SASHA FIERCE

A new album of Beyoncé is divided into two different albums. The first album is called I am, where Beyoncé is the frankest. According her own words this is she under all fame of showbusiness. She is sensitive and vulnerable. An opposite of the first album is the second album called Sasha Fierce. This album is a musical and lived ego of her. It is full of melodic songs which are written for self-confident girls.

JERSEY GIRL

DVD- Jersey girl is a dramatic comedy. The story tells about an honest and often amazing story of a man whose life was completely changed. Ollie Trinke (played by Ben Affleck) is a young and nice man who is very successful as a Manhattan music publicist. He gets married with Gertude (played by Jennifer Lopez) and has a child.

One day his perfect life is stopped. His wife leaves him and their child. He becomes a single father, loses his job and moves back home to his father’s house in a New Jersey. But it is also frustrating for Ollie who is already used to the big city life standard.

He sees no way out of this life and no way back to the life he lives before. But he adores his young daughter Gertie who loves their life in a New Jersey.

Ollie meets Maya (played by Liv Tyler). Maya is an independent and strong woman. She is an intelligent and sensitive woman. Maya tries to show Ollie the fantasy of what he wants is not necessarily what he needs. She feels safe around him, and she wants to help him. Next to the beautiful friend Maya, Ollie starts to feel love again.

In my view this film is a story about life of common people that can be so fantastic and easy when I am with my loved family and also life can be so hard when one of this people leaves. But I must be strong and live for my family that needs me.

Anastasia Kuzminova has gold from European championship.

UFA-Slovak representant in biathlon Anastasia Kuzminova won in speed race of women in 7,5 km line which was the first competition race of european championship racers under age 26 in russian UFA.
She was on the leader position after one half of race and she presisted in this position during whole competition. Biathlon consist of 2 shoot discipline and she didn’t miss any target. She has the best condition in her life. One weak ago she won silver medal in World championship in Pjongchang. She was born in Russian Tumen and now she has Slovak passport after marriage with Slovak husband.

Bratislava

Bratislava is the capital of the Slovak Republic. It is a seat of the President, government and parliament. This city is the political, cultural and economic centre of country. Bratislava is situated near the Australian and Hungarian border, this position is advantageous because of foreign business. The half a million inhabitants lives in the capital of Slovakia.

The history of Bratislava is very rich. This town was an important crossroads of trade routes. Every century has left here some historical and cultural monuments. Bratislava castle is the dominant building of the city. Nowadays, a lot of ceremonial and representative sessions are organized in this castle. The historical section of Slovak National Museum is also installed here. In the past there were a fortification formed by wall and four gateways. But only one of them, Michael’s Gateway, is preserved.

There are a lot of historical buildings, which are interested for Slovak and also foreign tourists, for example: Town Hall, Academia Istropolitana, St Martins Cathedral and so on.
But Bratislava is not only a historical city. Important national cultural, scientific and educational institutions are concentrated here: the Slovak National Theatre, the Slovak National Gallery, the Slovak Academy of Science as well as universities like the Slovak Technical University or University of Economies.

On Sunday ladies and gentlemen walked on the red Oscar carpet. Like in old films celebrities preferred black and white the most.
Black classic
Angelina Jolie, who presented an elegant dress of Elie Saab without straps, joined the classic. She completed it with expressive green temple rings.
Halle Barry could be titled “gorgeous”. Her gold and black dress, which reminded tail of mermaid, come from Marches collection. The winner of category The best actresses in main role Kate Winslet had dressed grey and black dress from Yves Saint Lament.
White princes
Penelope Crúz, the winner of category The best actresses in supporting role, could be proud of her beautiful, romantic robe. Also mode icon Sarah Jessica Parker shined on the red carpet. She bet on a bright white dress from Christian Dior.
Jennifer Aniston chose cream white Valentino dress, which brightened her and underlined her slim figure.
“Beauty and the beast”
Pretty Frieda Pinto became favourite. Her exotic blue John Gallian dress assumed every media and certainly lot of men attention too. Inside out British actresses Tilda Swinton made a big mistake. Beige top made her much older and fair in face and black satin skirt seemed old- fashioned.

The United States of America, the most distinguished and most important country of the world, has chosen a President. Barack Obama, whole name Barack Hussein Obama II, the name that is mostly spoken by people all over the world, is the 44th President of the United States. In the election, Barack Obama, representant Democratic Party, defeated Republican John McCain. The inauguration of Barack Obama took place on January 20, 2009. Barack Obama graduated at Columbia University and Harvard Law School, and then was the junior United States Senator for Illinois. As for political system in the US, only in short. The President of the United States is the head of state and head of government of the United States and is the highest political official in the United States by influence and recognition. United States´s political system consists of three branches and the president has a dominion status. The United States presidential election was held on November 4, 2008. It is necessary to say, that this election was sharply followed out because of the world´s financial crisis, caused by the US. On the other hand, this election was first time in the US history that an African American was elected President. Also, voter turnout for this election was the highest in at least 40 years. In my opinion, Barack Obama will change the view the world of the United States because he symbolizes a process of destruction differences between races, nations, cultures. I hope …

Chocolate

I don’t know, if I go around the world I will find a person who doesn’t like chocolate. It is delicacy not only for children, but also for adults. Although people reduce consumption because of overweight, disease or other reasons they often can’t resist it. On the other hand the chocolate has some advantages for example it contains a lot of vitamins and proteins. It is good remedy for our nerves and also brings us energy.
The word chocolate comes from the language Nahuatls, aboriginal population of central Mexico.
Types of chocolate:

- milky chocolate
- white chocolate
- chocolate with different flavours
- blebby chocolate
- chocolate without sugar
- stuffed chocolate…

Even though chocolate has lot of positives effects, but we shouldn’t eat it in a big amount. If we eat chocolate lashings it could lead to chocolate addiction.

It means that consumption chocolate is useful for our health only it isn’t drug for us.

Use and don’t put off on a shelf

Do you know that feeling of losing naturalness and security when you stop work with foreign language for a long time? Knowledge of foreign language isn’t a privilege today, it’s a necessity. You can choose many learning methods.

At school

Work with group of people moves you ahead, you can communicate not only with a teacher but also with your classmates. A teacher corrects your mistakes not only in exercises but also in common speech and gives notice on right pronunciation.

Are you autodidact?

The cheapest solution in quest of learning foreign language is self-study. You can learn everywhere. Big advantage is independence, flexible study time, you can practice the same module as long as you need. Procure high- quality books, which are written also in Slovak language and don’t forget on CD versions, so you can listen right pronunciation.

It didn’t take a long time and with a development of internet start arise web-sides, which offer opportunity to learn language on-line. E- learning, it means interactive study, offers explanation of grammar on examples, different multimedia exercises and games, dialogs, which you can join, records and all your mistakes are corrected and explained. Except paid sides you can find many “free” sides, which offer apart from traditional languages like English, German, French also languages like Chinese, Japanese, Arabic.

To learn language go abroad

Foreign language courses are still favoured by many people. Where would you learn or improve your English language skills if not in England? Reunion with students from different parts of the world helps you obtain conversational lightness, ability to talk in foreign language on different topics.

FIGHTS IN NHL

Fights are in NHL from the beginning of this competition. But there are polemics about their future. Spectators adores them but after death of one young player who in fight fell down on ice and hit his head. After one week in coma he died
It can seems that fights in NHL has no rules and it is only sign of agresivity. But that is false.

There is “unwritten codex” with fighting rules.
-one man against one man
-captains are untouchable
-goal-keeper can fight only against goal-keeper
-the fight starts when both of players cast away their gloves.
Who are the fighters?
Most of teams have generally one fighter (frequently called “bad men”) in their team. Their assignment is to protect best players prior to the injuries and fouls. It is unusual when they are good in productivity. They play mostly in “checking line”,in the 4.line.
The biggest fighter
Probert will always be remembered as one of the NHL's toughest players, in 16 NHL seasons he fought 285 NHL fights with a record of 176-50-59 (176 wins, 50 lost).
Slovak fighters
One of the best know Slovak fighter is Zdeno Chara. He has fight 49 times and he was generally the winner. In video, he is fighting against Koci (Czech republic).

. national day of mourning announced

Saturday, February 21, 2009, the day, this changed many lives. This day belongs to “black days” in history of the Slovak republic. In one of the worst traffic accidents in Slovakia’s history, a collision of a bus with a train near the village of Polomka, which is situated in central Slovakia, claimed 12 lives. When the bus was trying to cross a railway crossing without electronic warning system, the driver did not hear the comer train. The train hit the bus and pushed the vehicle on the railway track for about twenty meters. Passengers, majority of them were people in the middle age from Bánovce nad Bebravou, were carrying on the two-days trip to the ski resort Bučník. The bus driver, survived the crash with injuries and was taken to one of the nearby hospitals. The injured passengers were taken to hospitals in Banská Bystrica and Brezno. Prime Minister Robert Fico, Transport Minister Ľubomír Vážny and Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák appeared at the accident site to coordinate rescue efforts. Prime Minister Fico announced a national day of mourning for February 22. The national flags flew at half on Sunday. This is the third national day of mourning in Slovakia's history. The first such day was announced on January 23, 2006 to pay tribute to 43 army servicemen and women killed four days earlier in an air crash on their way back from a mission of duty in Kosovo. The second was declared on September 9, 2008, dedicated to the victims of a fatal Slovak bus crash in Croatia that claimed 14 lives.

Svidník

I decided that in my other contribution I will be writing about my hometown which is called Svidník.
It is a town in eastern Slovakia and it is located in the Ondava Highland, at the confluence of Ondava and Ladomírka rivers, located around 20 km from the Dukla Pass (Polish border) and around 55 km north-east of Prešov. It has a population of 12,384 (2005).
From the history I want to commemorate that Svidník arose in 1944 by merger of formerly two independent municipalities of Nižný (eng: Lower) Svidník and Vyšný (eng: Upper) Svidník. In Svidník we have a lot of historical and cultural facilities as a Gallery of Dezider Milly, open air museum where are beautiful, wooden houses and old wooden church, as well in Svidník we have two museums (first is Military museum where we can find things from the first and second World War and the second museum is called Museum of Ukrainian-Rusyn culture). A lot of statues which are placed about the town commemorate old history of this town. Too in Svidník there are 5 elementary schools and seven secondary schools. For young people there is a cinema, disco bars, coffee bars, swimming pool and many other places where they can spent their free time.
I think that Svidník is beautiful town with many cultural facilities, good and friendly people and many natural beauties which are interesting for many people. I am very happy that I was born in this little and wonderful town and that I spend my childhood here :)

DOPING

In sports, the use of performance-enhancing drugs is commonly referred to by the disparaging term "doping", particularly by those organizations that regulate competitions. The use of performance enhancing drugs is mostly done to improve athletic performance. This is why many sports ban the use of performance enhancing drugs. Another similar use of medical technology is called blood doping, either by blood transfusion or use of the hormone erythropoietin (EPO). The use of drugs to enhance performance is considered unethical by most international sports organizations and especially the International Olympic Committee.

Anti-Doping Convention of the Council of Europe

The Anti-Doping Convention of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg was opened for signature on 16 December 1989 as the first multilateral legal standard in this field.The main objective of the Convention is to promote the national and international harmonisation of the measures to be taken against doping. In their constitutional provisions, each contracting party undertakes to:
->create a national co-ordinating body;
->reduce the trafficking of doping substances and the use of banned doping agents;
->reinforce doping controls and improve detection techniques;
->support education and awareness-raising programmes;
->guarantee the efficiency of sanctions taken against offenders;
->collaborate with sports organisations at all levels, including at international level;

->and to use accredited anti-doping laboratories.

AUSTRALIA

Australia is surrounded by the South Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. It is about 3000 kilometres southeast of mainland Asia. The name Australia comes from the Latin word australis, meaning southern.

The greatest population centre is Sydney, with a population of close to 4 million people. Other important city is Melbourne with a population of approximately 3.5 million people. The capital is Canberra.

Almost everybody lives in the big cities on the coast, because most of the country is desert and farmland. Farming is mainly sheep farming. There are probably seven sheep for every Australian. Surfing is very popular sport between people. It is part of beach scene, but it is not the main leisure sport. Because the weather’s is good, we’re an outdoor people. Bushwalking, fishing, horse riding, tennis, golf, sailing are all popular. There are a lot of spectacular places to see in Australia. The Great Barrier Reef is the biggest structure on the Earth made by living things. There is the desert and semi – desert area in the middle of the country. Kangaroos, koalas, platypuses and wombats are some of the animals that live in Australia.
The country was once a British colony, and most of the Australian people are British ancestry. When people moved to Australia from Great Britain, they took many British customs with them. For example, Australians drive on the left side of the road. A tea is a popular hot drink. Aborigines are the native Australians, but nowadays they make up about 1 per cent of the population.

Few steps to happiness

Today when we live so fast we forget on things which make us happy. Everyone of us has totally different life priorities. However there are some things that can make day a little bit happier.

Learn to be thankful

Instead of common thanks express true thanks for anything what your colleague, friend of someone who is close to you has done for you. Work or thing that somebody has done for you, makes you happier and with it comes joy which is a little step to happiness. You should learn how to be thankful also for little success.

Deal joyfulness

Joy is close to happiness. Try to deal joyfulness every day. Make happy your friends or relatives. To make happy someone you don’t have to spend a lot of money even you don’t have to spend anything. Nice word and smile on your face is enough to make them smile too.

Forgive bad things and remember good things

I’m sure that somebody said or did something what hurt you. It comes with life too but if you are angry at someone you don’t solve anything just make days of your life unhappy. It’s needed forgive and forget on bad experiences. On the other hand keep great moments in your memory.

. euro in the Slovak Republic

In recent days, almost every adult citizen of Slovakia has seen and touched a euro coin. On January 1, the Slovak republic has joined the eurozone as its 16th member. The Slovak’s adoption the euro can be considered by historical success for the whole nation. The European Commission said that the switch to the new currency, which now is used in the European Union by more than 323 million people, has been smooth in Slovakia, although Slovakia has walked a very difficult path to meet demanding criteria for the euro switch. In my opinion, Slovak’s adoption of the euro will be beneficial for the tourism, industry and inhabitants, too. If we have the same currency like our business partners, it is easier to realize the commerce between us. As for the advantages, the euro will make travelling easier not only for Slovaks, but for foreign tourists, too. Also our new currency will help economics by means of easier export and import. When people in Slovakia worried about the euro-switch, they most typically envisaged problems with recognizing coins or worried about their purses bursting with coins. According to the survey, Slovaks have also been concerned about being cheated by retailers. It is necessary to say, that this change has its prons and cons, but in the definitive consequence it is positive for all us.

Pokoj v duši: A story begins when Tóno comes back to home from a prison. He and his family live in a village “Čierny Hron”. Tóno finds out that relationships with his wife is changed and he does not know his son who is five years old. Tóno can not find a job and he has not been a thief yet. Tónos’ friends Marek and Peter try to help him, but they have own problems.

The story is played in a locality of mind Slovakia which is typical of poaching, race prejudices and intolerance, theft of woods, but also of strong family tradition, belief, friendship and love.

This film has characteristics of a classical drama.

Apples

If you like apples you probably keep conservative principles. Also you are fast and full of energy. Especially at work. Trnava

My second contribution is about a town in the heart of Europe, the name of which is Trnava. Trnava belongs to the most important towns in Slovak Republic. It is situated in the centre of Trnavas downs, 45 km far from the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava. The first written mention about the town on crossing trade roads dates back to 1211. Trnava was the first free royal town in Slovakia. After this, Trnava has been changing from an agricultural town to a centre of production and trade.
Trnava university was established in 1635 and at this time Trnava became an important university town. Nowadays there are two other universities expect for Trnava university. In the past, there were also typical townwalls around Trnava, which protected the town and inhabitants who lived there. These townwalls have remained up to now.

Nowadays, Trnava is an important historical town and an industrial centre. There are a lot of historical monuments, for example the town tower on the square street. The Townhall is near to it. Trnava is a seat of 12 churchies. It is a main symbol of Trnava. That is why Trnava has been called "Little Rome". Trnava is a municipal town with about 70000 inhabitants.
Sports are very popular among people. The most favourite sport is football. In my view only few sports clubs have so many fans like Spartak Trnava.
I think that Trnava is an interesting place for your trip and I hope that it fulfil your expectations.

Marián Hossa (born January 12, 1979) is a Slovak professional ice hockey right winger who currently plays for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. Originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators in 1997, Hossa has also played for the Atlanta Thrashers and Pittsburgh Penguins. After being drafted into the NHL, he played one season with the Portland Winter Hawks of the WHL, winning the Memorial Cup.
On July 2, 2008, Hossa signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings worth $7.45 million.Detroit is the last winner of Stanley cup. He belongs to the best players in Detroit (second place with 58 points). He usually plays in formation with P.Daciuk and T.Holmström. In analysis of TV company TSN is this formation on second place in NHL. Hossa has excellent form and he is on 12.place in productivity with 31 goals and 27 assists. From the last 7 matches he has 10 points. Detroit has stable place in Western Conference and they have only the highest animus in play-off.

Why did I study at university? This is the question of graduates, who stay at the corridors of employment agencies. Is it useful to be hard-working at school so many years?

It depends on you

Assure university recipe doesn’t exist. The most important thing is hided inside of you. Our start conditions are defined according to self assertion. Years spent with the books don’t replace talent and ability. A lot of things are depended on our facilities. Shyness and hiding in the shell is out of the date. The winners are people who can sell their talent and negative facilities turn to positive. Everybody can offer something different.

Don’t be lazy during the study

There is nothing like easy going student’s life. All you have to do is to pass a few exams and then you have a lot of time of dolce far niente. But if you think about tail gate you should try to find some brigade work. If you have luck you find the work which is close to your study. After the graduation there is nothing worse than walk between employers with a thin CV. Interesting positions and firms in column “experiences” immediately prick up one ears at personal department. Match your name with sufficient practical work experiences.

Where the success reside?

In a right combination of self confidence and modesty. Also don’t forget to believe yourself. If you don’t believe yourself you cannot show all your advantages. So think positive. It’s easier to achieve your dream aims with a right motivation.

My name is Radka alias ,,Fíbi´´ and I am the main editor of this page. I decided that in my first report I introduce members of our blog called F.R.I.E.N.D.S. We are students at University of Economics in Bratislava. We attend the first grade there.

. the road law

In my point of view, the new road law can be considered by interesting question for whole society. Slovakia belongs to many European countries, which took the new road law in recent period. New rules came into force on Slovakia’s roads on February 1 with the primary goal of reducing the country’s high rate of accidents. It is necessary to say, that the Slovak republic together with Romania were the only two EU countries, that did not change valid road law for many years. One of the most important results, why we have the new rule is that Slovakia committed to the European Union to reduce the number of people killed in road accidents. As for the most significant changes, taken by this law, e.g.: the speed limit in towns and villages has been lowered to 50 kilometres per hour, headlight use is required year-round, cyclists must now wear protective helmets when riding outside villages and children under 15 must wear a helmet at all times while cycling, even in towns and villages. When there is low visibility, both pedestrians and cyclists should wear reflective clothing so that drivers can spot them more easily. In my opinion, the development of road traffic requires apply these new rules in practice and also the tactfulness between all participans of society in our home country.

New funny story called „Nestyda“ is appeared in Slovak and Czech cinemas. There is a short desription of this film.

Main hero Oskar (Jiří Macháček) should be happy man: as beloved husband, careful father and popular moderator of weather forecast. He has predictions of successful man in the „best age“. Where is a problem? He begins to having a feeling of insecurity of his life. Oskar thinks that he does not live a fully life. He leaves his wife because of young lover that has a perfect figure but is not wiser. Is this a real love? Later Oskar meets a famous singer Nora. She is beautiful, intelligent and delicate woman, but she is older.

Oskar’s life changes on a crazy ride with curious incidents.

This film has had many positive critics and a success in Slovakia and also in Czek republic.

It is a comedy about marriage and sex. The comedy arisen according to a bestseller „ Povídky o manželství a o sexu“ of Michal Viewegh.
